The house and surroundings

More than 200 years of history

Casa Farfalilla is a traditional Canarian house in the north of Tenerife, over 200 years old. It was renovated by my parents with their own hands (with some help: a builder and some carpenters, a couple of friends, and me too, of course!). During the renovation, we kept the traditional structure of the house, respecting the surroundings as much as possible.
I grew up playing in this neighbourhood and this is where my grandparents met. I am an artist and still live between two countries, Casa Farfalilla is my gateway back home. ...but for now, in the meantime, you can also enjoy Casa Farfalilla.

Surroundings

The neighbourhood

Casa Farfalilla is located in the beautiful area of La Rambla ( also known as El Rosario). La Rambla is a picturesque neighbourhood in San Juan de La Rambla, with few inhabitants, whose families have lived here for generations. The entrance is next to Barranco Ruiz, a beautiful ravine that forms the boundary between the towns of Los Realejos and San Juan de la Rambla.

Its privileged location, on the edge of the cliff, allows you to enjoy beautiful views of the north coast.

The house is accessed via Camino Real, lined with palm trees and traditional houses in the neighbourhood. It is located in a peaceful rural setting, disturbed only by the sound of the sea and the flight of shearwaters and kestrels. It has everything necessary to accommodate three people.

It is a good area for rest and quiet holidays, with places to swim nearby, following the mentioned path, about 400 metres away, and it is a short distance from various natural spots and beaches, as well as urban centres.

What to do

Activities

Tenerife offers a multitude of tourist and cultural options, including the sea, mountains, beautiful villages and the national park.
The north coast of Tenerife has excellent beaches of volcanic origin, with black sand and stones, making it an excellent destination for swimmers. However, the rugged terrain and lush nature of northern Tenerife offer a multitude of alternatives to traditional tourism. Below we suggest a series of activities that will make your stay at Casa Farfalilla an original and enjoyable holiday.

Hiking
Tenerife has an extensive network of tourist trails. Several of the most acclaimed trails, such as the Rambla de Castro path or the Barranco Ruiz climb, are just a short distance from Casa Farfalilla.

Surf and BodyBoard
The ultimate water sports in Tenerife. Need to hire equipment or take private lessons? These services are available at very competitive prices at El Socorro Beach or Martiánez Beach.

Paragliding
Adrenaline lovers can enjoy this unforgettable experience less than 10 minutes from the accommodation, in Los Realejos.

Tourist attractions
Swimming pool complexes, Canarian banana cultivation, popular festivals, etc.

Natural Areas
The Canary Islands Network of Protected Natural Areas in Tenerife has a total of 43 protected areas covering 48.6% of the island's 2,034 km².

Note from the owner

Sustainable tourism

We believe in a more sustainable form of tourism.
If you want to contribute to better tourism and help the environment you are in:

  • Consume local products.

  • Shop at nearby shops and bars.

  • Support small producers or artisans in a conscious manner.

  • Use public transport responsibly, respecting that seats should be available for local residents on their daily commutes.

If you visit nature:

  • Follow and respect the rules.

  • Do not stray from the hiking trails.

  • Do not take stones, vegetation or animals with you.

  • Do not leave rubbish behind or feed the animals.

Get in touch with the local people and help achieve higher quality, sustainable tourism.
The Canary Islands face serious housing problems and the effects of mass tourism. This house opens its doors to tourists who want to enjoy the destination responsibly, respecting the local community and avoiding practices that contribute to property speculation or an increase in holiday homes.

Casa La Corredera

If you need to book for more than 3 people or in a house where children are allowed, please do not hesitate to contact our neighbouring house, Casa La Corredera. A very authentic Canarian house, with everything families need and the same wonderful sea views from its terrace.
Shall I tell you a secret? It was renovated years ago by the same artisan hands that renovated Casa Farfalilla.
